Each year ESA WA awards prizes to Students from each of the Universities for excelling in economics subjects.

It “is made to a person who is judged to have made a substantial contribution to economics in WA over their career or who have made a significant innovative contribution to the economics profession in the past year.”

The purpose of this award is to honour distinguished Australian economists for their contribution to the development of economics.  Criteria eligibility is to be based upon the candidates contribution to the development of economics as a discipline or profession. Recipients of the Award are expected to be living when annual nominations close.  The Award to be announced and presented at the Annual Conference whenever possible. The Award is to be accompanied by a citation and the citation is to be published in an appropriate issue of the Economic Record.

This award is to honour members of the Society for their significant, substantial and sustained contribution to the Society’s goals. The eligibility criterion is ‘contribution to the Economic Society of Australia in relation to its objectives.’ These efforts may include, inter alia, encouraging the study of economics and diversity of the student cohort, supporting professional development of economists, and/or enhancing understanding by the general public on the scope and application of economics to address today’s challenges. Nominations for this prestigious award can be made by any Branch or member of the Central Council of the Economic Society of Australia. The Award is to be announced and presented at the next Australian Conference of Economists, whenever possible.

To honour that Australian economist under the age of forty who is deemed to have made a significant contribution to one or more of economic thought, economic knowledge, and the application of economics to public policy and public debate.
