Policy in the Pub - In the beginning there was economic history... personal observations of a career with Eva Skira AM – Tuesday 18 June 2019
As part of our Policy in the Pub series of events, we are pleased to invite you to hear from Eva Skira AM.
Eva has a distinguished career as an economist and finance professional in corporate banking, institutional stockbroking, capital markets and derivatives and has gone on to serve on high profile boards including as current Chairman of Trustees of St John of God Health Care, Board member of the WA Parks Foundation and she was Chairman of the Water Corporation of Western Australia during 2012-2017.
Eva is looking forward to sharing observations and insights on her career and the role of economics in her career direction, effectiveness and success as a strategic advisor, executive and non-executive. Eva has experienced various policy issues across multiple sectors including water and health, and she will reflect on her conscious and unconscious use of the tools of the economics and finance disciplines, as well as practical experience, to achieve outcomes and manage relationships across the government, political and business sector.
Eva is currently a non-executive director at ASX listed entity Macmahon Ltd. Eva has also served as Chairman at Westscheme (the largest industry superannuation fund in WA and oversaw the merger with AustralianSuper) and the Forest Products Commission, Deputy Chairman at Metrobus (formerly Transperth), non-executive director of Doric Construction Group, Deputy Chancellor of Murdoch University and a Board Member of MDA National Insurance. Prior to concentrating on Board roles, Eva held positions as an economist and finance professional in corporate banking, institutional stockbroking, capital markets and derivatives.
Born and schooled in Tasmania, Eva completed her 1st Class Honours Degree in Economic History at the University of New South Wales, and went on to achieve a distinction in her Masters of Business Administration, becoming Dux of her class at IMD International, an internationally ranked tier one business school based in Switzerland. She now resides in Perth.
Eva was recognised for her achievements receiving an Order of Australia in the Australia Day 2019 Honours Awards and also received in 2017 the AICD WA Director Gold Medal Award.
