WEN with Wine: Impacts of the pandemic on women, including employment and production of goods - ONLINE ONLY
From: Thursday June 11, 2020, 5:30 pm
To: Thursday June 11, 2020, 6:30 pm
As part of our new WEN with Wine series (temporarily replacing our Policy in the Pub events), we are pleased to invite you to hear from Simone McGurk, WA’s Minister for Women’s Interests.
Elected to the seat of Fremantle in 2013, Ms McGurk was recognised for her extensive work in the community through her appointment to Cabinet in March 2017, as Minster for Child Protection; Women's Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; and Community Services. Since then, she has led the charge on women’s equality issues in Western Australia, earlier this year releasing a comprehensive ten-year plan to address gender inequality.
With Western Australia already facing a gender pay gap of 22 per cent (compared to 14 per cent nationally) pre COVID-19, and early data showing the economic impacts of the pandemic to be higher on women than men, we look to face an even greater challenge for equality in the State. We will discuss with the Minister how she believes women will be impacted by the pandemic and the long term impact on our gender divide.
The ‘Policy in the Pub’ series is an informal event providing an opportunity to participate in discussion about topical economic issues. It is co-sponsored by the Economic Society of Australia and Women in Economics Network’s WA Branch.
