The Economic Society of Australia (WA Branch) welcomes The Hon Colin Barnett AC as the guest speaker for our first Economics on the Swan breakfast event for 2026.

In his presentation titled, "When Economics Meets Politics: Applying Economic Principles in Government", Colin will reflect on how economic ideas inform real-world policy decisions.
Drawing on his experience as a former Premier and senior minister, including in Treasury and State Development, Colin will discuss how economic principles shaped key policy choices in government.
He will explore examples such as Commonwealth–State financial relations, the GST, and broader questions about the role of economic analysis in public decision-making.
