WA Women in Economics Network: Navigating the Media

Date

From: Tuesday September 1, 2026, 4:30 pm

To: Tuesday September 1, 2026, 6:00 pm

Whether you're presenting economic insights, responding to media enquiries or building your professional profile, understanding how the media works is an increasingly valuable skill for economists.

Join the WA Women in Economics Network (WA WEN) for an engaging discussion on navigating the media, featuring special guest Graham Mason, former journalist and current Media Advisor to the WA Leader of the Opposition, Basil Zempilas.

Drawing on his extensive experience across journalism, communications and politics, Graham will share practical insights on:

  • how journalists think and what makes a story newsworthy
  • communicating complex economic issues clearly and effectively
  • preparing for media interviews and public commentary
  • building confidence when engaging with the media
  • common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

This in-person discussion will provide an opportunity for audience questions and networking with fellow economists and professionals across Perth.
