With an unwavering commitment to excellence and integrity, we do work that is meaningful and rewarding. We are a diverse and inclusive agency where our people are supported to grow and thrive, with workplace flexibility to help us be at our best.

The work area

This role sits within the Economic and Revenue Forecasting Directorate which is part of the Economic business unit.  The team monitors and analyses economic conditions in Western Australia, its key trading partners and commodity markets, as well as trends in revenues. It forecasts key economic aggregates, as well as tax and mining revenues (accounting for around half of total revenue) for the State.

We are looking for individuals who are resilient, proactive and display a committed work ethic. Work will often have to be completed quickly to meet tight and competing deadlines. You will have conceptual and analytical skills with experience in the analysis and evaluation of both quantitative and qualitative information and be able to communicate results to stakeholders effectively. Communication skills (interpersonal and written) are essential, together with experience in preparing and presenting evidence‑based advice on economic or revenue issues. Ideally, you will be able to anticipate and manage issues, be a strong team player, and work independently with minimal direction, and be willing to learn and apply new skills, be solutions focused and be able to identify improvement opportunities.

In this role, you will:

  • prepare, coordinate and present forecasts and advice on the outlook for the Western Australian economy, key export and commodity markets and what that means for State government taxes and royalty revenues.
  • develop and use a range of models and techniques to analyse data from a wide range of sources, as well as information gained from consulting with experts from other agencies and the private sector, to inform your forecasts and advice.
  • work both independently and as part of a larger team, and mentor and share knowledge and technical expertise to develop other team members.
