Episode 5: To Study (or not to Study) Economics
Student enrolment numbers in economics have starkly declined in Australian high schools over recent decades. Furthermore, diversity among economics students on the basis of gender and socioeconomic background has also declined during this time. These statistics prompt us to ask what has contributed towards these trends?
In this webinar, we will be joined by Tanya Livermore and Mike Major from the Reserve Bank of Australia who will share the results of a comprehensive survey of secondary school students. The survey was commissioned by the RBA to better understand students' perceptions of economics and their motivations to study (or not to study) economics as a subject.
